Facebook Account for Organisations: How to Set Up and Manage Your Business Page

Log in to your Facebook account. Type the term "Pages" into the search bar available on top of any Facebook screen and choose the "Facebook Pages" link in the search results. On the next screen, choose the "Create Page" icon in the top right corner of the screen.

Visit the 'create an account' page. Facebook will then give you the option to select the type of page you want to create: business and brand or community and public figure. As we are setting up the account for business purposes, go ahead and click the 'Get Started' button for that option.

This adds a person to your entire Meta Business Suite account, not only your Facebook Page. This is helpful to give your staff access to all your Meta assets, including Facebook and Instagram profiles, analytics, ads account, and more.

2. Enter a username, then click outside of the composer. FYI: Creating upper and lower case letters in your name (also called camel case) will help visually with your name. However, for Facebook accounts, upper or lower case in the URL does not matter. Someone typing in "AcmeCountyHistory" or "acmecountyhistory" both are recognized.

The final step in setting up your Instagram account is to follow relevant people. Our favourite trick for doing this is to go to the page of a competing organisation that you share many similarities with. Click on who they are following and use that list as a jumping off point for choosing accounts to follow! We would then recommend following all of your organisational partners, stakeholders, loyal members and similar sector organisations.

Facebook contact synchronization lets people set up a connection between their Facebook account and their Microsoft 365 or Office 365 account by using Outlook on the web (formerly known as Outlook Web App). After they set up a Facebook connection, all their Facebook friends are listed as contacts in People in Microsoft 365 or Office 365. They can then interact with their Facebook friends as they do with their other contacts. Facebook contact sync is turned on by default if the feature is available in your region.

The features that are available to your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 organization are determined by the service plan for your account. Some features aren't available to mailboxes or organizations in specific regions.

Anyone with a Facebook account can create a Page to share information and news. Companies, government organisations, famous people and brands can also do so. Through a Facebook Page, you can share information with friends, with friends of friends, or with a wider audience. When Facebook users like or follow a Page, they get posts from that Page owner in their news feed. Facebook determines the content of that news feed with clever algorithms, based not only on user preferences and activities, but also on activities and ratings (likes) from friends.

Privacy Company has conducted technical and legal research into the personal data Facebook processes when you visit a government organisation's Facebook Page. That research is called DPIA, Data Protection Impact Assessment. Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), organisations must conduct such an investigation if they suspect that the processing leads to high data protection risks for people. Privacy Company has also conducted broader research into the human rights impact of using Facebook Pages, in a HRIA, Human Rights Impact Assessment. A second blog has been written about that.

A fake government Page was created for the DPIA, of the (fictitious) Ministry of Privacy. With two brand new Facebook accounts and 1 existing Facebook account (in the researchers' names), that Page was visited every day for a month. Both accounts randomly clicked on recommended content. One account received notable anti-government messages. This is further detailed in the HRIA. All investigative actions were recorded, outgoing data traffic to the Facebook servers was intercepted, and at the end, three data subject access requests were filed for the three accounts.

Legally, Facebook considers itself an independent controller of any personal data it collects about visitors to a government Page. Facebook believes it may process those personal data for its own purposes. The DPIA describes 15 main purposes, including profiling and showing personalised information and ads. Facebook uses tracking cookies for that personalisation, also collecting data from Page visitors who do not have a Facebook account. Facebook does not want to offer public organisations a joint controller agreement for those processing operations. Facebook only offers such a contract for a very small part: showing the Page Insights statistics to the Page owner. In view of the absence of contractual agreement on the processing of the iceberg of underlying data processing, the use of a Page results in third party data disclosure. Government organisations have to regard Facebook as a commercial third party company to which they disclose all the personal data of their Page visitors. There is no necessity for government organisations to disclose personal data in this way. Because Facebook does not clearly inform what it does with the data, and how it determines which posts visitors see in their news feed, the visitors cannot give valid consent either, insofar as Facebook asks for such consent at all.

This DPIA concludes that government organisations should stop using Facebook Pages if Facebook does not take measures to reduce the high risks. The Dutch government will immediately start a dialogue with Facebook.

Stay ahead of the latest updates to get the greatest visibility for your campaigns. Think about setting up a business account for your nonprofit so you can see more analytics and sync data and content between Instagram and Facebook.

With great admin control comes great responsibility. When hackers access your account, they compromise any groups or pages you manage as well. Make sure to read our guide on what to do if your Facebook account is hacked.

To create a Facebook Business Page, log in with your personal Facebook account and go to Once there, see two options: Business or Brand and Community or Public Figure. Click Get Started under Business or Brand.

No, You cannot make a Facebook Business Page without a personal profile. Facebook needs an admin profile for a business account. However, by using Facebook Business Manager Account you can somewhat run a page without a personal profile.

Now you know how to create a Facebook page without a personal account. Although, you will need an account to create for your Facebook page but with the right procedure, you can keep your personal account and Facebook page handling separately.

Profile/account names should include the full organisational name or as much of the full name as possible. Abbreviations should make sense and enable the user to recognise the organisation. This is so users can identify NHS organisations from each other in newsfeed/status updates.

NHS organisations can also differentiate themselves from each other by applying their visual style to their profile picture or cover photo. When applying a visual style/graphic device, the digital exclusion area around the NHS logo must be adhered to.

What happens when you post in your own FB business profile, does the post appear in your personal or business account ? If in your personal name, then people can just click on your name and see your personal profile ?

Creating a nonprofit account comes with some added perks and abilities that are otherwise unavailable with regular accounts. For instance, nonprofit accounts come with built-in fundraising tools, production resources, and dedicated technical support.

Technical support is beneficial as nonprofits run with a limited workforce and a thin marketing budget, proving troublesome at times to afford personal tech support. Special accounts further provide you with analytics options, which further help you to track your progress online.

Also, keep your account updated with information like email & all possible phone numbers. Add an address of your establishment, and if possible, add a location for the same. Address and directions for your nonprofit will take the trust and your establishment a step further.

A simple way to know your followers better is to take time to explore the kind of pages and accounts they follow and the kind of posts that appeal to them the most. This will give you a fair idea of the followership that you have.

Instagram Marketing 101: Respond to comments from your followers! This is an obvious must-do, but a quick browse of comments posted on the accounts of nonprofits on Instagram reveals that the majority of nonprofits ignore comments.

That said, Meta Business Suite is available on Desktop (business.facebook.com) and as a mobile app (App Store, Google Play) and the platform toolset is extensive: 2ff7e9595c
